A Bexar County Sheriff's deputy charged Thursday morning with driving
while intoxicated, evading arrest in a vehicle and failure to stop at
the scene of an accident has been placed on administrative leave.
Ruan Harley Matelski, 32, was released from the Bexar County Jail after
posting $6,800 bail. Sheriff's Detective Louis Antu said Matelski
will be placed on leave pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation.
According to a San Antonio police report, Matelski collided with an 18-wheeler
on the Interstate 35 northbound access road after failing to yield the
right of way while merging.
The report states he failed to stop and was found near the intersection
of Eisenhauer Road and Ray Bon Drive.
Antu said Matelski has been with the department since 2002.
