Michael graduated from The University of Utah with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. After which, he attended the University of Mississippi School of Law where he earned his Juris Doctor degree. It was early in law school where Michael discovered his passion for criminal law. While attending law school, Michael excelled in his criminal law courses and consistently in the top of his class for criminal law. With his heightened focus and success within these courses, Michael was one of the few graduates to have earned a criminal law certificate prior to law school graduation.
While in law school, Michael served in the Denton County District Attorney’s Office Prosecutorial Externship Program spending two summers interning for the Denton Attorney’s Office where we gained early prosecutorial skills and performed legal research for judicial officials.
After law school, Michael worked as an Assistant District Attorney with Denton County. During his four years of prosecutorial experience, Michael showed an early aptitude in criminal law and quickly promoted to Chief Prosecutor. While at the Denton County District Attorney’s office, Michael gained extensive trial experience with a stellar record in a wide variety of criminal cases including felony trials and family violence cases gaining praise and notoriety from both peers and leaders in the legal community. In addition to the courtroom skills Michael gained as an assistant district attorney, he gained extensive experience in evaluating hundreds of criminal cases for disposition and has been recognized for his negotiating skills and measured demeanor both in and outside of the courtroom.
Dance joined the Law Offices of Tim Powers in 2017. Since becoming part of the team, Michael has continued to gain critical trial experience which continues to provide excellent results for our clients because of his negotiation, case analysis and courtroom skills. Michael couples his talents as an exceptional criminal defense attorney with his deep-rooted passion to aggressively defend the rights of citizens in his community with each client he represents.
Michael lives in Denton with his wife Brie and their four children. During Michael’s free time he enjoys staying physically active with activities like mountain biking and CrossFit.
