Recently in Denton, a social media video was surfaced, leading to some scrutiny of the Denton Police Department.

It started last Wednesday when the Denton PD responded to an incident of a woman walking around naked with a baby in a motel parking lot. When the police arrived at the scene, the woman was located on the second floor of the motel with a sheet wrapped around her. According to reports, the police thought the woman should be mentally evaluated. They then proceeded by handcuffing her for her own safety but the woman began to resist. The man, Marcus Coleman who was outside with woman holding the baby that the woman was reported holding, handed the baby to someone else and attempted to interfere with the woman's arrest.

One of the officers's stood in the middle and asked the Coleman about 30 times to "back off," but Coleman refused causing the officer to tase him. When a video like this gets posted on social media, it gets labeled as police brutality; however, there is always two parts to every story. Although to some it may look bad, but after reviewing the official reports and all the facts it appears the Denton PD handled the situation in an appropriate manner. Some may question why Denton PD handcuffed the woman in the first place and the answer is simple. In cases like these, it is important that the police take precautionary measures to prevent the person from harming themselves or others. The Denton PD also did a good thing in protecting her integrity and keeping her covered. In instances like these, the police normally take the person into protective custody to keep them safe.

If this were just an indecent exposure, this would be considered a Class B misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of 180 days in jail and a fine not to exceed $2,000.
