April 15, 2013, is a day that many American will remember for the rest of their lives. What started as a supportive, family fun day turned out to be a day of tragedy. On this day, two slow cooker bombs were set off near the finish line of the Boston Marathon killing 3 and injuring several civilians. The people responsible for the Boston Marathon Bombings were two brothers, Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, now 21, has been accused of 30 different counts, one of them including setting off weapons of mass destruction at a public event as an act of terrorism. Last week, he waited through the first phase which was establishing guilt. This week, Tsarnaev waited through the first phase after being found guilty of all 30 counts. Seventeen out of those 30 counts are possible indicators which could send him to death row. Next week, the court will meet again for the second phase to determine whether Tsarnaev would be sentenced to life in prison or death.

During the arguments, Tsarnaev's attorney argued that yes what Tsarnaev did was wrong; however, they argued that the real blame should be placed on his older brother Tamerlan, who greatly influenced his younger brother. His attorney claimed that Dzhokhar's older brother took advantage of the fact that he knew his younger brother was failing out of college and didn't have much to lose. They also argued that he just followed his brother's footsteps. The problem with this argument was that after the bombing, both brothers fled the scene. When the cops got a hold of them, they had a huge shootout with the police. Tamerlan was shot and died at the hospital; however, Dzhokhar was able to get away. He was found hiding in a parked boat. On the boat, he wrote a manifesto stating that American's would pay for his brother and what was happening with his fellow Muslims. This manifesto was enough evidence to show that Dzhokhar was not as influenced by his brother as his attorney claims.

Unfortunately, for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, there was no better argument that could have been done for his case. There was too much evidence against him. In addition, having the trial be done in Boston was another major factor that played against him. They did file to move the trial out of Boston; however, the trial was rejected. Overall, it is not looking good for Tsarnaev and after seeing the way his trial has been going, most likely the court will rule on the death penalty next week. What do you think?
